Valentina 03:36
Valentina Cutting the cloth and pushing in pins Work never ends it just begins Smoke rises slow and the soot it falls Valentina’s high above us all A shooting star will catch the light She’s somewhere up there in the night This world must look so small Valentina’s high above us all Wish I wasn’t so easy to leave behind Out of sight and out of mind Valentina Valentina When she comes home she’ll need a parade She’s seen so much we’ll look homemade Valentina the belle of the ball Valentina high above us all Wish I had what it takes guess I’m scared to go If you don’t say yes you’ll never know Valentina Valentina Cutting the cloth and pushing in pins Work never ends it just begins Her picture hangs on the factory wall Valentina’s high above us all

After the last bell rings After the last bell rings Will I be on my own Sleeping beneath the stars Nowhere to call home A million lights above me When all I want is one Will I be on my own After the last bell rings After the last bell rings Where am I going to go When all the chairs are stacked Caught in the undertow Eyes in the bar room mirror Somehow seem to know Where am I going to go After the last bell rings Let it ring, let it ring Let it ring, let it ring After the last bell rings Darling put you hand in mine Both of us are lost Who knows what we’ll find Our pockets might be empty All we’ve got is time Darling put your hand in mine After the last bell rings

Spencer the Rover This tune was composed by Spencer the Rover As valiant a man as ever left home And he had been much reduced Which caused great confusion And that was the reason he started to roam In Yorkshire near Rotherham, he had been on the ramble Weary of traveling, he sat down to rest By the foot of yon' mountain Lays a clear flowing fountain With bread and cold water he himself did refresh With the night fast approaching, to the woods he resorted With woodbine and ivy his bed for to make But he dreamt about sighing Lamenting and crying Go home to your family and rambling forsake 'Twas the fifth day of November, I've reason to remember When first he arrived home to his family and friends And they did stand so astounded Surprised and dumbfounded To see such a stranger once more in their sight And his children come around him with their prittle prattling stories With their prittle prattling stories to drive care away And he's as happy as those As have thousands of riches Contented he'll remain and not ramble away This tune was composed by Spencer the Rover As valiant a man as ever left home And he's as happy as those As have thousands of riches Contented he'll remain and not ramble away

Sold Out 03:45
SOLD OUT Sold out, Closed the shutters barred the windows Travel where the road goes Moved on Tore up the lease that tied me Going absentee Sold out Sold out, You bought everything I brought you You’re happy so I’ll leave you So long Someone will open up in town Who’ll stay up late, who’ll stick around Sold out, You seen the sign on the windows You seen the empty shelves You called it a sign of the times But you done nothing to help Sold out Turn the key for the last time Dying echo of the door chime Long gone Just footprints in the dust Just footprints in the dust Sold out, moved on, So long, long gone

Delta 05:05
Delta Waking, Stream of consciousness On a sleeping, street of dream Thoughts, like scattered leaves Slowed in midfall, into the streams Of fast flowing rivers of choice and chance And time stops here on the delta While they dance While they dance I love the child who steers this riverboat But lately he’s crazy for the deep And the river seems dreamlike in the daytime And someone keeps thinking in my sleep

Fare thee weel, ye dungeons dark and strang Fareweel, fareweel to thee Macpherson's time will ne'er be lang On yonder gallows tree Sae wantonly, sae dauntonly Sae rantonly gaed he He played a tune an' he danced aroon Below the gallows tree Untie these bands from off my hands Bring tae me my sword There's nae a man in a' Scotland That'll brave him at his word Theres some come here tae see me hang And some to buy my fiddle But before that I do pairt wi' her I'll brak' her through the middle The reprieve was comin' o'er the Brig o' Banff To set Macpherson free But they put the clock a quarter afore And they hanged him from that tree Little did my auld mother think When first she cradled me That I would die a rovin' blade And die upon the gallows tree

Look over the hill and far away G C Look over the hill and far away G C We'll see the start of a brand new day G C G Heaven help us when it arrives G C G One more day with tears in our eyes A7sus4 A7 For the only one, lonely one Am7 D7 Lonely one, where can she be? The figure stands at the windowpane Up to the hill he looks again Thinking back, he knows he was wrong How could he leave his home for so long And he's back to find no change of mind He was blind, where can she be? Why does he stand just outside the door It does no good, he's stood there before And just waved his hand, I don't understand There's no one there, so who can explain?

about

On 19th Novemeber 2013 we convened aboard Chris’s 64 foot Humber Keel ‘Southcliffe’ moored in the Yorkshire Waterways Museum, Goole. We set up the studio. We had a cup of tea. We procrastinated. We admired the original cabin and the eighty year old diesel engine and somehow four days later via the Willows Folk Club, a lot of good craik, many cups of excellent tea and a visit to the chip shop we made this. And we’re both very proud of it.

Chris Sherburn is one of the best anglo-concertina players in the UK. He is renowned for his great playing and mighty craic! He is also well known for his longstanding musical partnership with Denny Bartley. They toured worldwide and released numerous albums. They formed band extraordinaire “Last Night’s Fun”, and it was here Findlay and Chris met. In recent years Chris has also toured extensively with Bella Hardy.

Findlay Napier is a Scottish singer, guitarist and songwriter based in Glasgow. After attaining his BA in Scottish Traditional Song Findlay formed a traditional folk band called Back of the Moon which performed all over the world and released three albums. They were awarded ‘Best Up and Coming Act’ at the Trad Music Awards in 2003 and ‘Folk Band of the Year’ in 2005.

When the Back of the Moon disbanded in late 2006 Findlay performed with Last Night’s Fun for a year playing up and down the length of the UK. At the same time he formed. Findlay Napier and The Bar room Mountaineers. Findlay is a fine songwriter……

“(5 Star Review) This is not background music. These songs look you square in the eye and give you a quick slap around the sensibilities if you dare stop paying attention.” FRUK
